On This Day - September 06, 1989. The Qantas Airways Boeing 747-438 VH-OJA 'City of Canberra' entered service, operating Flight QF28 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Melbourne (Tullamarine). Prior to it operating its first revenue service, large 'We Go Further' titles had been applied to the aircraft, in recognition of its non-stop world record breaking delivery flight that it had just completed. |

The sector from San Francisco to Sydney was also its first revenue service. It was the airline's 101st Boeing airliner and its 20th Boeing 767. |
