The Ansett Flying Boat Services Short S.25 Sandringham Mk.4 'Tasman Class' flying boat VH-BRC 'Beachcomber' was badly damaged at Lord Howe Island, when it broke its mooring and was blown ashore by strong winds during the night. The aircraft was dragged further up the beach to prevent further damage being casused by wave action, and plans were put in place to mount a rescue effort to salvage it and return it to Sydney (Rose Bay).
