On This Day - August 19, 1948. The Qantas Empire Airways Douglas C-47A-20-DL VH-EAM crashed on take-off at Brisbane (Archerfield). This accident was caused by crossed aileron cables, that had been inadequately inspected during overhaul. The aircraft required extensive repairs / rebuild before it returned to service. |
On This Day - August 19, 1969. The Trans-Australia Airlines Vickers 756C Viscount VH-TVL 'George Evans' operated its final passenger service. It was then withdrawn from use and stored at Brisbane (Eagle Farm) awaiting its fate. |

On This Day - August 19, 1976. The Ansett Airlines Boeing 727-277A VH-RMU was badly damaged at Melbourne (Tullamarine) when the senior hostess lowered the rear passenger door onto a freight barrow that had been parked under the aircraft's tail. A tug driver then drove off with the freight barrow, ripping the entire door off the aircraft, causing over $100,000 damage. |
