Construction completed at Long Beach, California - March 1944 Built as a Douglas C-47A-85-DL Allocated U.S. serial number 43-15485 Delivered to U.S.A.A.F. - March 30, 1944 Utilised in the Pacific Theatre of Operations at Tacloban & Manila Withdrawn from use and sold to Australian National Airways - November 29, 1946 Converted to DC-3C-G202A standard Entered onto the Australian Aircraft Register as VH-ING - December 15, 1948 Registered to Australian National Airways Pty Ltd Leased to Guinea Airways - 1949 Sustained major damage in crash - full details not known Fuselage / centre section parts from 2 DC-3s (VH-ANM & Zinc Corp DC-3) used in the rebuild Transferred to Victorian Air Coach Services - December 1961 Utilised to inspect damage sustained by Ansett-ANA DC-6B VH-INA - April 14, 1964 Subject of mid-air training incident involving the shut-down of engines - April 28, 1964 Following the intentional shut down of starboard engine - port engine subsequently failed Crew - Capt A. Groser, F/Os J. Evans, M. Bax & P. Damon effected a safe landing on one engine Transferred to Airlines of N.S.W. - August 20, 1966 Withdrawn from service and placed in storage at Essendon Airport - January 20, 1967 Cancelled from the Australian Aircraft Register - November 18, 1968 Sold to Simsmetal Ltd, and scrapped on site at Essendon Airport - May 30, 1970 |
