The Qantas Airways Boeing 707-138B VH-EBA 'City of Melbourne' operated the airline's inaugural Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Tokyo (Japan) Boeing 707-138B jet service.

On This Day - December 05, 1963.

The remains of the Ansett Flying Boat Services Short S-25 Sandringham Mk 4 'Tasman Class' flying boat VH-BRE 'Pacific Chieftain' were scuttled some 5 kms off Lord Howe Island. The aircraft had been damaged beyond repair whilst moored at the Island overnight on July 03. This aircraft had made 424 trips to Lord Howe Island, and had flown 15,308 hours.

On This Day - December 05, 1969.

The Ansett-ANA Vickers Viscount 818 VH-RML operated its last passenger service as Flight AN45 from Sydney (Kingsford Smith) to Melbourne (Essendon). It was then withdrawn from service and stored having flown 22,719 hours. It was sold to Far Eastern Air Transport (FEAT) on May 18, 1970.

On This Day - December 05, 2008.

The Qantas Jetconnect Boeing 737-376 ZK-JNO operated its final passenger service as Flight QF2715 from Auckland to Wellington. It was then ferried from Wellington to Christchurch later that day as Flight QF6171, where it was withdrawn from use and prepared for scrapping.

The Royal Australian Air Force Airbus A330-243MRTT A39-005 arrived at Brisbane (RAAF Amberley) having completed its delivery flight from Spain (Madrid).

The Virgin Australia Airbus A320-232 VH-VNF 'Ningaloo Coast' entered service. This aircraft had previously been operated by Tiger Airways.
