About Custom Made Photo Books

 

Did you know that it is cheaper to have your images presented in a professional 'Photo Book' format than what it would cost you to buy individual 'postcard' sized photos from this website?

You can now create your own unique customised 'hard cover coffee table' photobook using the images displayed on this website or I can create a 'Memories' photo book for you.

 

These hard cover photo books are in landscape format only and can be created in two sizes:

a) Standard hardcover coffee table book - 28 x 22 cm

b) Large hardcover coffee table book - 33 x 25 cm - this is larger than A4 size!

 

These books are an enthusiast's book and and are a great way to either capture your aviation interests or to record your flying memories if you are a retired or soon to retire airline pilot.

The cost of each book is determined by the number of pages you choose to have in your book. The minimum number of pages you must have in each book is 22 pages - consisting of:

a) Front title page (mandatory);

b) Photo or image pages x 20;

c) Rear title page (mandatory).

 

Only one photo will be placed on each page so as to maximise its size and visual appeal. The photos are sized to a fixed template over which I have no control. Where possible I will always try to size the photo so that they occupy the whole page. This will not be possible if one edge of the image is going to be lost in the book's spine - that is either the aircraft's nose or tail is going to be too close or obscured by the binding.

Generally speaking, the stanadard reproduced image size in each book is:

a) Standard hardcover book - 18 x 13 cm;

b) Large hardcover book - 21 x 16 cm.

 

Whilst the minimum number of pages in each book is 22, additional pages can be added. The maximum number of pages that can be incorporated in each book is 100. Pages must be ordered in groups of two (2) - that is back-to-back. The cost for additional pages is:

a) Standard hardcover photo book - $AUD 2.60 per pair (2) of pages

b) Large hardcover photo book - $AUD 4.60 per pair (2) pages

 

These hard cover books are printed with a dust jacket. The dust cover images, front and rear, are also printed on the book's hard cover itself. The pages are printed on high quality paper. The starting price for each book - excluding postage - is set out below.

a) Standard hardcover book (include 20 photo pages) - $AUD 60.00 (excludes postage)

b) Large hardcover book (includes 20 photo pages) - $AUD 100.00 (excludes postage)

 

These books are printed outside Australia and are sent directly to you by the printer using DHL Express couriers. This courier service will only deliver to a street address and you must sign for each book on delivery. The delivery cost on each book is: $AUD 8.00

 

If you live outside Australia you can still order these books but I will have to give an individal quote on postage, as this cost will be determined by the weight of the book and the method you choose to have it delivered to you.

 

An example of a what a standard hard cover book looks like has been supplied. It was prepared for a retired Ansett captain who wanted a record of the aircraft he flew whilst employed by the airline. Please note that in this example the unused 'text box' has been captured on the image pages and the rear dust cover.

Text boxes DO NOT APPEAR when the book is printed.

How do I go about making my Custom Photo Book?

 

The first thing you will need to do is to decide on who will make the image selection for your photo book. If YOU are going to select the images to be included in your photo book then you will need to identify each image you want to use. Most images on this webside are available for inclusion in your book.

You need to identify each image by quoting the seven (7) digit reference number for that image. You can do this in two ways. The first method is to click on the thumb nail images that appear under each aircraft's main registration. This will take you to a larger version of the image. Under this image is its Reference Number - record this number.

An alternative method would be to run your 'cursor' over the thumb nail image you are interested in. Somewhere on your computer screen will appear the 'URL' for this image. Record the seven digit reference number that appears and record it.

Next you will need to organise these images in the exact order you want them to appear in your book. You can group your images as you wish - I will place them in the order you give me. Under each image I will record the aircraft's registration and type in one text box with its location and date in the second text box. The bottom text box will carry the 'Copyright Notice' - this is a manditory requirement on all of my photo book pages.

You will also need to select the image that will appear on the dust cover of your book. It maybe an image that appears within the book or it may be a separate image. This image needs to be clearly identified using its reference number and the notation - 'cover image'. The same applies for the inside and rear dust cover images.

After you have selected your images, you need to decide if you require any text pages to be added. If so then you will need to contact me to discuss further. It is important that you edit your text closely as I am not going to proof read it and correct any errors. I will arrange your text a the page so as it presents the best way possible.

Your order can take about 4 to 5 weeks to prepare and print - depending on the number of orders that require to be filled at that point in time. If there are going to be delays you will be notified. You will be advised by email when your book is being posted to you.

Whilst every endeavour is made to present each image in the best possible way, some images will appear in your book better than others. This is mainly due to how the original photo was taken - film stock, camera and lenses used and lighting conditions. Another factor that can influence the print quality obtained on each book image is how the film stock has withstood the advance of time. Please enjoy the process of making your own Photo Book.
